CEREMONY POLICIES
Please note the following policies applicable to Camp 20's obligation ceremonies.
DRESS CODE
The dress code for the ceremony is business formal, which loosely defined is attire suitable to wear for a job intereview. We request that candidates and guests conform to this dress code out of respect for the other attendees and guests for the ceremony.
GUESTS
Candidates may invite guests to the ceremony, space permitting. We request that guests not bring children younger than 12 years old to the event to avoid interfering with the solemn nature of the event.
GUEST RING PRESENTERS
Normally, the Wardens of Camp 20 present candidates with their rings, however, candidates may register a guest ring presenter to present them with their ring. Guest presenters must be approved by Camp 20 in advance, and must meet the following criteria:
they must be obligated engineers and must be wearing their ring,
they must have been granted their ring at an obligation ceremony at least four years before the ceremony they are registering as a guest ring presenter, and
they must have a close personal relationship with the candidate. This means they are related to the candidate. Work colleagues, professors, project leaders/supervisors, and classmates are not suitable as guest ring presenters.
FALL GRADUATES
We recognize that some Term 8 candidates will not complete all of their graduation requirements until later but they still want to participate in the Obligation Ceremony with their classmates. We will accommodate participation by candidates who will graduate later under the following conditions:
They must meet all requirements for graduation during the calendar year of the ceremony. Candidates who have to complete a course or work term in the following calendar year will need to participate next year.
Candidates will be presented with their ring on stage, but it must be returned to a Warden at the end of the ceremony. The candidate's ring and obligation certificate will be mailed to them when they have met the requirements for graduation.
FA
CANDIDATES WHO DO NOT GRADUATE
Candidates who do not graduate after attending their ceremony must return their rings and certificates to Camp 20. They will be struck from the Camp's records.
